Listen to our portrait of the Wind Whistles below!

Indie Folk, Alternative, Folkpop, Indiepop, Indie Rock, "Free Folk" or rather everything at the end. - There are many attempts to categorizes "The Wind Whistles". Founded in the early 2006 The Wind Whistles raised quickly to one of the starts of the Creative Commons scene. But still, after three albums (Window sills, 2007; Animals are People Too, 2009; The Secret Album, 2009) the duo consisting of Tom Prilesky and Liza Moser remains difficult to catch, but nonetheless unique: Prilesky, who comes from the spazzy noise-punk outfit of "The Nature Of Things", and Liza Moser, who is currently part of the grunge band "Bad Fate", prefer to define themselves as a combination of "The Lemonheads" and "The Violent Femmes" while people tell them they sound like a cross of "The Decemberists" and "The Moldy Peaches". Furthermore parallels to "Elliot Smith", "Iron and Wine", "Chad Vangaalen" or "USA IS A MONSTER" are obvious.

But in spite of those surely similar bands The Wind Whistles staying different: Prilesky and Moser, which are living together in the suburbs of Vancouver, seem to fit perfectly together; their voices harmonizing extraordinary. This symbiosis goes even so far, that the sometimes pretty thin voice of Moser is almost unhearable.

On the other hand there is the creative, captivating songwriting: Tracks like "Turtle" (watch below) or "House for a Mouse" (Animals are People Too, 2009) are so simple, authentic, catchy, naive but honest that you will love them.

Additionally Tom Prilesky with the Acoustic guitar and Liza Moser with the Acoustic bass guitar (occasionally joined by several friends on the drums or Electric guitar) know how to dose the instruments. In this way their music keeps the pleasant, comfortable feeling its produces by the hearer.

But the feature that most distinguishes The Wind Whistles from other bands is that their music is completely free: There are platforms like iTunes etc. where you can buy it, but all their albums, released by the German label aaah records, are CC-licensed and therefore for free. All albums except of one: "The Secret Album" is exclusively reserved for the best fans and only available with a small donation: Prilesky and Moser are saying that this album "is the missing link between the old and the new, with a few surprises mixed in..."

Currently The Wind Whistles are taking a break after several tours through North America and especially Europe and working on their fourth full length album.
