Citrus Memories

Museums, a boring place? Not at all! If you always wanted to visit a very special museum, than you should not miss the Citrus Memories, a place where documents and historical elements concerning local citrus fruits in connection with the Kampos area are presented.

Through a modern and dynamic exhibition, housed in the ground floor of a estate, the visitor will be informed about:

• The cultivation of citrus fruits, tools, production methods, the unique variety that has been cultivated in the area of Kampos and what makes tangerines and other citrus fruits such a special good

• The society, the unique myth of Chian tangerines,the Genoese and the merchants who spread the fruits in foreign markets, the farmers, the caretakers and the landlords of the Kambos area

• Export methods e.g. trading of citrus fruits to Istanbul and Izmir in the 15th century until the end of the 20th century, the unique individual papering, which made citrus fruits a luxury product in the European markets until the end of the 20th century

• the extended area of Kampos, its unique architecture, the orchards and wells

• the history of the area through a 23-minute film where local farmers describe the evolution and decline of the citrus fruits trade
