Aghia Markella

The Monastery of Aghia Marcella is located 7 km north of Volissos.

Interesting is that it is built on a sandy beach. This place has a special meaning for the local community because people say that Saint Marcella died on a beach which is about 20 minutes away from the church. That is why this church is dedicated to Saint Markella who was born in the 14th century on Chios Island. Next to the church are many rocks where the water spurts up.
