Lesvos

The island of Lesvos (Λέσβος) is the third biggest island of Greece and just 80 miles northern from Chios Island. The eastern part of the island consists mostly of forests. The area of and around Polichnitos shows clear signs of volcanism. There are also the hottest springs of Greece with about 70 to 85°C.

Also special and interesting is a fossilized forest that comes from the period 23 million years ago. This part of the island seems to be very desertic, but somehow still interesting. The capital city of Lesvos is Mytilene. It plays and also played in the past an important rule for trade. It is placed at the coast and was an important meeting point for seaman and dealer. Special for Lesvos today is also a great production of Ouzo. It found good requirements to produce Ouzo. They started to specialise in this area, successfully. Today it covers about 50% of the whole Ouzo production of Greece.
