Josh Woodward

Are you one of the millions of people who download music illegally? If your answer is positive, and you additionally enjoy a good mixture of electric and acoustic rock, you should go ahead and download some of Josh Woodward's songs. Don't worry – it is both legal and free to do so. You can copy them, use them and burn them if you want to.

This week's band of the week is the American acoustic rock musician Josh Woodward, known for his productive career and for sharing all his songs for free on the internet. His style has been said to resemble Simon and Garfunkel and John Meyer, and it has moreover been categorized as folk, indie and pop rock. However, no matter how you categorize his music, it still has its own, mellow vibe, completely different from the mainstream pop rock.

Born in a small town in Ohio, Woodward began playing music in high school in the early 1990's, but it was not until many years later that he began to pursue his dreams of being a professional singer-songwriter. Having lived in California, one could believe this influenced him to write such liberal and easygoing music, but he did not pursue his musical career until he moved back to the piece and tranquility of his hometown Findlay, where he started performing in a local coffee bar. It was in fact this coffee bar, Coffee Amici, that motivated him to write more songs. He says he needed the encouragement and support from the crowd to get the incentive to start recording his own music. In the past 8 years, Woodward has released 10 albums. The latest album “The Wake” was released in August 2012, and is, like all his other albums, available for download on his website www.joshwoodward.com.

Besides sharing all his 180 tunes on the internet, Woodward gives away CD's on a name-your-own-price basis. Since implementing this sharing policy, his songs have been downloaded over one million times. He has a rare, humorous attitude towards publishing music. The description about him on his official website, for example, begins with “Josh Woodward seems to have a career death wish”, referring to this uncommon sharing policy.

Please check out his music on his own website, Jamendo or Youtube for free, and then download your favorite tunes from his website and enjoy!
