Asterix at the Olympic Games

Asterix at the Olimpic games is the third live action movie about the adventures of two comic books  characters. The production was the most expensive one by that time, budget is estimated for about  78 ,000 ,000 euro.

Again, as in Trojan War, it’ s all about a woman. During the Olimpic games Brutus, the adopted son of Caesar, competes to win the heart of beautiful princess Irina. He’s not the only one to do so: His rival is Lovesix, friend of Asterix and Obelix. The game becomes not reliable to the rules of fair play - Brutus tries to use the situation to take over the throne from his father.
What makes the movie special is the participation of international celebrities: Michael Schumacher, Jean Todt i Zinedine Zidane. The movie is starring Gerard Depardieu and Clovis Cornillac as the main characters. Fans have different opinions about the role of Asterix, played by new actor, but I think he managed the role very well.
The movie is different than the others from the series, because it focuses more on the Brutus’ character than on Asterix and Obelix. However, it still has the same sense of humor and is equally hilarious as the previous ones.
Although the movie takes place at the Olympic games, on Mount Olympus, the scenes were shot mainly in Spain. The film shows Greece from ancient Romans perspective. The Greek references are very visible though. For example Irina, the Greek princess, is showed as a beauty model. Her father, king Irytos, represents wisdom – he is the one who comes up with the idea of challenging two of the candidates for the legendary Olympic games. The movie shows a lot of Olympic sports and shows diversity of sports. All of that with a good sense of humor.
