The Story of Jacob and Joseph

This movie is a great film about one part of the Book of Genesis in the Bible. It has been directed and written by Michael Cacoyannis and Ernest Kinoy. The year of publication was in 1974 and tells about the patriarchies Jacob and Joesph.

Jacob (Keith Michell) deceived his brother Esau with the primogeniture and had to escape with his uncle Laban (Herschel Bernardi) from Kanaanto Haran. There Jacob (Tony Lo Bianco) met Labans daughter Rahel (Yona Elian) and fell in love with her. After 14 years working for Laban, he got the chance to marry her. Then he decided to go back to Kanaan and Jacob reconciles with his brother Esau.          

Jacob got twelve sons and all of them hate his son Joseph because he was his fathers favorite. So the brothers decided to transfer him to a caravan of slave drivers. They went to Egypt and Joseph came into the possession of Poiphar, one of Pharaoh Supreme. Poisphars wifedisired him. When he decided to elude her she blamed Joseph for rape. He belonged to the prison and he came in contact the cupbearer and the baker. Joseph was interpreting the dream of the cupbearer. Because of that he also became famous for the Paraoh. He was also able to interpret his dreams he also became well-known for the prince of Egypt. He became the overseer of him.

Years later, Josephs brothers went to Egypt and they became reconciled with their brother.

This movie was filmed mainly in Israel and Egypt but also in Greece. Very interesting - especially for Chiosradio - is the musician and composer Mikis Theodorakis (Μίκης Θεοδωράκης), who was born on Chios Iland. He wrote the whole music for this movie and also for some other famous movies like Zoba the Greek or "Z".

You can also buy this movie on DVD since 2001.

It will be really worthwhile to watch it, especially for the people who are interested in history, religion or somebody who wants to see a special film.
