For Your Eyes Only

This is the twelfth "mission" of James Bond alias 007, produced by Eon Productions Ltd. Bond- movie and aired on the 7th of August 1981 in the German cinemas. Sheena Easton sang the title song "For Your Eyes Only" (to listen to this song please click here), which was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Song" .

I would like to quickly conclude the storyline of the movie to the main aspects, in order to focus more on the filming spot. James Bond gets the contract to find a lost ATAC (Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator) that was last seen on a British marine ship. Unfortunately this ship sank in the Ionian Sea. The archaeologist Havelock is sent by the British secret service to recover the ATAC, but is killed on his research by Hector Gonzalez. The following story of the Bond- movie is as usual: Bond discovers a hot trace in finding Gonzalez, the murderer of Havelock, survives through a lot of hot pursuits, meets hot women and in the end it is another example where the Good shall triumph.

As I have already announced, here are some information concerning the place the movie was shot. This also makes it more obvious, why I have chosen this movie and presents the connection to Greece like all our movies on our website.

The opening sequence is located in London, the skiing scenes play in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomite Alps and almost all the other scenes were directed in Greece and on the island Korfu. Here are some examples of spots on the island: The monastery of Vlacherna, a scene on the market square in the historic city and the old Venetian fortress.

The premiere of the movie was on the 24th of June 1981 in the Odeon Leicester Square in London with Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Additionally, there were also previous director in the audience like for example Harry Saltzman. Also at the premiere was the future actor of the character of James Bond, Pierce Brosnan, but “only” as the entourage of his then- wife Cassandra Harris.

All in all, one could say that the movie has been a commercial success, even though in the USA, there were only 19,8 million tickets for the cinema sold (less than 6 million than for the movie “Moonraker”). In Germany the movie had about 4,8 million visitors, making the movie ranking on the 15th of 23 places in the USA and the 11th in Germany of all the Bond movies.

Of course, like always at the end of a presentation, we would like recommend this movie. In this case, however, we think that this is not really necessary as you may have heard from the numbers of visitors in the cinema, who are the best recommendation themselves. If you were not the audience yet, don't wait too long to watch it. Thank you for listening to ChiosRadio.gr.
