Rock & Metal - Not here to Dig, but to Sing: Sekshun 8

„Man of Sorrow“, „Zombie Baby“, „Born Again Hooligan“, „Murder Ride“ or „We Are the Hunted“ - this sounds like the content for a (Zombie-)Splatter-Action-Movie by Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino. Indeed those are the names of several songs by the American metal / hard-rock band from the United States, Norfolk: Sekshun 8.

"The lights go down, the smoke pours on the stage, and four figures walk out with one thing in mind: giving the audience the best show they’ve ever seen. Not only do they perform their music flawlessly, but, the visual aspect of their show is second to none. Whether it’s twenty, or twenty thousand, Sekshun 8 brings the elements of rock, melody and performance to any venue, no matter the size. The audience is captivated by the band’s showmanship."

This is how the band presents itself to the audience on their homepage. However though active for years, Sekshun 8 did not raise much attraction since it founding in the year 2005. With their latest album from 2008, „Black Winged Butterfly“, this flaw seems to have lost significance, as it was mastered by Alan Bradshaw, famous for his work with Iron Maiden and Pink Floyd, in the Metropolis Studios in London, England.

Also Chet McCracken (Doobie Brothers) assisted in the creation of the album at the drums, and Stevie Vann Lange (ex-wife of „Mutt“ Lange) helped as producer.

The influence of the previously named bands is quite obvious, and there are also resemblances noticeable to other big names, like Nickelback, Marilyn Manson or Sum 41.

The band, however, did stay true to it self over the years, as its member were friends since early childhood and today are more a 'real' family.

With a total of about 28 songs their chances of acoustic variety are limited, but a band doesn't need to be versatile in order to do a good job – Sekshun 8 does. Their songs capture the spirit of rock 'n roll well, and their melodies and guitar riffs pay tribute to their great role models.

A good example for their style is present in their songs "Still Smoking" and the name giving song „Black Winged Butterfly“, both from the album „Black Winged Butterfly“.

Their two other albums are their debut album „Fist Full Of Nothing“ from 2005, and „Toymaker“ from 2007, but getting an impression of them is difficult due to their current unrenownedness in Europe and the fact that these tracks are not licensed under the creative commons license.

That is the reason why we can only present to you their latest album, „Black Winged Butterfly“.

More information are relatively scarce as well, but we hope to soon hear from from this promising foursome – literally. Until then, check out Sekshun 8 on Jamendo, Itunes or their homepage.
