Small Crime

This movie has been produced in Greece, Germany and Cyprus and got published in 2008 in its original language Greek (the original title of the movie is: Mikro Eglima or “Μικρό Έγκλημα”) directed by Christos Georgiou.

What could be the tasks of a policeman working on a small Greek island?

In the case of Leonidas (Aris Servetalis) who starts his career as a policeman on the small island Thiresia in Greece, his tasks narrow down to caution nude bather and the removal of frail cars out off the daily traffic – not the most important or dangerous duties in a policeman's life. Logically, Leonidas being a young and committed policeman, does not feel satisfied there and wishes a relocation to Athens where the big crimes are just waiting for him. Additionally the stubborn islanders smarten his everyday work because they defend their accustomed lifestyle. They do not understand his vision of order since they have been living on the island over years without the help and desired changes of Leonidas.

Finally Leonidas sees his great chance when in this harmonic idyll the dead body of a man called Zacharis (Antonis Katsaris) is discovered near an escarpment. Together with Angliki (Viki Papadopoulou) as his only support, a beautiful young woman from the island, who got honored for her TV- show in Athens, he inquires into the history of this dead body.

In the beginning of his investigations, Leonidas earns nothing but rejection by the islanders. He decides to store the dead body temporarily in a chest freezer. Suddenly, the islanders create individual stories to explain the circumstances of the crime. Soon comes to light that Angliki is the illegitimate daughter of Zacharis. In his quest for the solving of Zacharis death, Leonidas and Angliki fall in love. But do they have a realistic chance against the sworn community in which every one keeps his or her secrets?

The superior of Leonidas does not want to hear anything of the investigations that Leonidas undertakes and considers him as inappropriate for his desired relocation in a big city. But after an accidental and absolutely ironical exposure of the crime, Leonidas recieves a fax with the direct confirmation to Athens. Unfortunately, his big love Angliki is not convinced about the move. Now, Leonidas has to decide between his career, the long- desired dream for respect and acceptance or his love for Angliki...

Embedded in the amazing beauty of the island Thirassia the movie tells a story of quirky, but really adorable people and their small crimes. A refreshing crime- comedy paired with warm- hearted charme that let the island and the people on it will grow dearly to the audience's hearts.
