My Big Fat Greek Wedding

This movie has been shot in Toronto and Chicago in the year 2002. The movie was directed by Joel Zwick and the story written by Nia Vardolos. The scriptwriter Nia Vordolos used her own biography and life story for the content of this movie.

So who could be better for the female central character as herself?! Nia Vardalos took this role and played the character of "Toula". This "rom-com" (romantic comedy) is an independent film which was created with a budgetary of five million US-Dollar and after being published fetched an earning of worldwide 369 million dollar.

The storyline:

Toula lives in a modest way: She works in the family-owned restaurant "The dancing Zobra" and she dresses in quite an unremarkable way to her father's sorrow, as he wishes her to get married to a "suitable" Greek man.

For a long time Toula lived in the house of her parents and had to face up her father's demands.

Due to a cunning of the women of the family, Toula's father allows her to visit upgrade training courses to set up a family-owned tourist-agency. Her new wangled independence causes her to change into the figurative beautiful swan. She gets to know a young man and they begin to feel something more than 'only' friendship. But Ian Miller does not fit to the imagination of Toula's father of a "suitable" Greek husband. This is why Toula decides to keep their relationship secret until Ian asks Toula if she wants to marry him, to which she agrees happily.

When her family get's to know of this "jolly news" the reaction of his father is as it was to be expected. Yet Toula asserts against her father and the rest of her family and also Ian accommodates as best as he can by rechristening into the Greek Orthodoxy.

Unfortunately, the happy end has to wait, as it would be far too easy and boring if the movie would end that easily. The ChiosRadio.gr- team can just recommend this movie in which neither culture nor love knows any limits.

Therefore, we wish you a lot of fun for watching this movie.
