The Endoscope

Everyone knows that the ancient and current Greeks played a significant roll in the creation of the medical system how we have it today.
They made big researches in the usage of different substances in plants or the creation of important tools. But did you also know that it was a Greek who firstly created the endoscope or in Greek “ενδοσκόπιο” which could be translated as “target inside”.

Endoscopes are useful today because they help us to examine our internal organs like the throat, the oesophagus, the bladder, the bronchus and a many more. For each target organ there is also a specialized instrument like the nephroscope or bronchoscope.
Even if this instrument does look unspectacular, it is not. Through it the examination of our internal organs can be done visually and this is really helpful in the diagnose of illnesses or malfunction. It also helps in surgeries like an arthroscopy, where minimally invasive procedures are used.
But not only the medicine benefits of its use, modified endoscopes are used in the archaeology, the architecture, the work of the police and military, the technology, the search in cavities in the underground or even in the reparation of music instruments.
So this instrument, I could say, is something really special. But who made this big technological step?
The doctor Philippos B. constructed the first rigid endoscope in the year 1806 in Athens and sent it to the medical university of Vienna to expertise it, where it got positively judged. After the Second World War it was regarded as vanished until it was found in the USA and was sent back in the year 2001 to the “Institution for medical history” in Vienna.
After him a lot of different people carried on with the development of the endoscope and the specialization in the different areas of application, until today.
So what do you believe, did I tell you the truth about the origins of this useful tool or did I tell you only lies?

Solution:

All the information I gave you were the truth except that in the year 1806 the constructor was Philipp Bozzini a doctor who lived in Frankfurt but even so there are still a lot of things to discover about this really useful tool.
