... there were only autonomous cars ?

For 40 years, research and experiments have been made on vehicles to create an autonomous car. This kind of car is self-driven, so there is no human driver. Nowadays, some autonomous cars exist and are tested on real roads. The aim is to reduce the number of accidents, the traffic jam or the pollution.

And there are other good consequences : it would be the end of the driving license, the speed limitations could be higher, there would be no problem of elderly people losing their ability to drive, or problems of fatigue or Alcohol and drugs, there would be fewer car parks, no more speed radar and penalties!

But some problems could appear : many people would loose their job like truck/taxi drivers or driving teachers. And would you give your life in the “hands” of a computer ? What could happen if the car is hacked by someone with bad intentions ? Who would be responsible in case of an accident ? For example, in 2016, there was an accident in the USA with a truck and an autonomous car, that caused death of the person in the car. The origin of this accident could come from a defect in the system of the car. Nevertheless, if accidents happen, it should be less frequent than now with human drivers. This point has another consequence, hard to discuss : some organs transplants can be done “thanks to” or “because of” victims of car crash (1 on 5 in the USA). So with fewer car accidents, there will be fewer opportunities to have a graft...

So, I would like to conclude with a less serious, but important, question : what about the pleasure of driving ?
