Shield

Not everyone knows that the shield was actually invented in Greece by a thief.
One day a young Athenian wanted to steal some very valuable jewelry but since it was raining he decided to build an object out of a piece of wood to protect himself from the rain.

Unfortunately some soldiers watched him stealing the jewelry and shot arrows at him. Having nothing else to defend himself, he decided to use the object that he had built and managed to save himself. However, as he was running away, the object fell from his hands and landed on the floor - the first shield.
The soldiers who were pursuing him saw the shield on the ground and they decided to build others from this model for the Greek army to fight against their enemies, the Spartans.
For many years the shield was the most used weapon of defense in history and some people, for example the police, still use it nowadays.
