Mission Odyssey

This week I'll tell you about a TV series that you might have watched when you were smaller. It was actually one of my favourite series. "Mission Odyssey" is an animated series produced by the BAF Berlin Animation Film company. It has 26 episodes and was first premiered on German television. It is the child-friendly version of Homer's Odyssey.

Ulysses has just defeated the Trojans and plans to go back by ship to the island Ithaca where his family is already waiting for him. What he doesn't know is that Poseidon and Athena started a bet on his return. Poseidon wants to win this bet and therefore creates obstacles for Ulysses and his crew to prevent them from returning safely.

On their journey they encounter many Greek mythological creatures such as the three-headed Scylla and the dangerous yet beautiful Sirens. They are turned into pigs by the powerful witch Circe and get imprisoned by a giant one-eyed Cyclop. They also meet the "three Fates" who make up an illusionary world for the crew which they fortunately escape from. Furthermore, they get mixed up in the search for the mystical Pegasus and meet the dangerous Medusa who almost turns them into stone. For a little while they are also stuck in Atlantis, the sunken city. How all of these adventures turn out, you can find out by watching this series.

I can really recommend "Mission Odyssey" because it taught me a lot about a culture which I didn't grow up with. I think it is an interesting and entertaining way to learn about Greek mythology.
