Petalas

In my new radio article for this week I would like to present you a very interesting island. By 5.5 square kilometres it’s the biggest island of the group of Echinades and is called Petalas (Greek: Πεταλάς).

It is located in the region of the Ionian Islands just 500m far from the mainland of Greece. The entrance to the Gulf of Corinth is also very close. The administration is done by the municipality of Kephalonia but currently the islands population is zero.
The highest point on Petalas is 250m above sea level and the vegetation is made up by shrub and dwarf bushes. You will also find there around 4000 natural olive trees. The water is amazingly clear and ranges from deep blue to light green.
The closest village is Valti on the mainland which has about 100 inhabitants. Some people say that Petalas is actually the ancient Greek Duchilim. In the old Greek poem Iliad this place may be mentioned in connection with 40 ships sailing from there to Troy.
These facts are all very interesting but they are still not the reason why I choose to present this exact island to you. It’s the fact that Petalas is at the moment for sale as a private island. The owner put it on an online platform to sell it for the cheap price of just 40,000,000 Euro. So if you liked what you heard and you have 40 million lying around you don’t need, this could be you new home! It’s advertised as the perfect place to develop a settlement and that it could be transformed into a luxury hotel resort, private villas, a marina and harbour or an incredible private residence.
So what are you waiting for?
