... we would not have to work?

Did you ever think about what you would do if you would never have to work again? Would you continue working or stop?
A world where nobody would have to work, has enough money and could create the life that he or she wants sounds not only unrealistic, it is. But let's just think about the case that nobody would have to work because everyone would have a small basic income anyway. Would the world change dramatically?

On the one side I believe that many people are passionate about their jobs and know how important their work is. Most of the people want and need an opportunity to engage in social life and want a job that keeps them busy (in a healthy amount of course). Many people moreover want more than just a small basic income to exist.
Maybe people would become happier and a stronger feeling of solidarity would develop as everyone would be equal. No one would have to move due to their job, have restrictions from their boss, work in a profession they don't like or work too much anymore. The profession would likely stop being a status symbol and defining persons. People could choose the job they want and would therefor probably also work more ambitious and dedicated.

On the other side not every person is also thinking about the well-being of others. The quality of life would be decreased immediately if persons with important jobs (for example in the hospital) would stop working or only work irregular. Some jobs would probably be really favored while some other jobs would probably not exist anymore - even though they are also really important. Everything could get out of balance.

What do you think? Would everyone just care about himself or would there maybe be a stronger feeling of togetherness and happiness?
