... the earth was flat?

Since the ancient greek Aristoteles we know that the earth round like a ball. However, there are still people believing that it's flat in 2016. In this What If Article I will discuss what would be if the earth would really be a disc.

The first problem to think about is the edge. What will happen when you reach it? Will you fall down into space or will you go to the other site of the earth? Maybe the the sea will disappear because all the water flows down the edge. Everything would dry out and leave a huge amount of dead fish and other animals. Humans would loose a big food resource and -of cause- also the beautiful beaches. Travelling would also be a big problem. Planes could not fly on the shortest route around the round planet. The distances on a flat earth would be much longer in some cases.
Day and night could also not be the same on a disc earth. The time and sun position would be the exact same all over the world.
The biggest problem is the earth's gravitiy. In the center of the disc you'd probably experience it as usual but the closer you get to the edge, the stronger it will be because of physical laws. People would not be afraid to fall off the edge because of never reaching it. Everything would be pulled  to the center of the flat earth. That also applys to the edges of the planet ifself. A flat earth would collapse into a spheric very quick. Thank you for listening!
