Place: Kastellorizo

Hello and welcome to our radio. Today I want to tell you about some magic island Castellorizo
This small rocky form rising from the sea, called the last stop in Europe, just two miles from the southern Turkish mainland but so far from the rest of Greece is also known as Megisti,and Meis (the Turkish name).

Megisti means "large" but the island is only 9 km2 in size and has only around 300 inhabitants. It is called "large" because it is the largest island of an archipelag of 14 small islands. Kastellorizo is not at the end of the world, but very much at the end of the modern Greek world, is also part of the Dodecanese group of islands. Kastellorizo is a special, an unusual Greek island and probably the most quiet and peaceful place you can find in the Mediterranean sea. Kastellorizo has got the best natural harbour in the whole area also is a natural and biological paradise. Is a place where you can only use your own legs for transportation (on the island there is only one taxi), and also the island is slow and very laid-back. The people are typical islanders: friendly and curious, and even thought their lives are not the easiest on this isolated island, they try to live happy life and diversify with romantic songs and many festivals. On the island are several traditional events and fairs. You have to also taste katoumari and strava, the traditional sweets offered in local tavernas. In Megisti there is an archaeological, folklore museum worth to visit, as well as a few churches. Kastellorizo is an excellent place for diving, sailing and fishing. Apart from that, you can simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet! As tourism is yet to develop you'll only find couple of hotels - a good place to experience true Greek island life.
