Kythnos

 Kythnos is a Cycladic island, also called Thermia from the famous thermal waters. It is located between Kea and Serifos. Kythonos is 100km2 in area and has costline about 100km. This island is characterized by low hills, charming beaches, traditional settlment and entrancing churches.

The most important cities are located by the seaside except for Chora and Driopida which are mountainous. Chora is capital of Kythnos.                                                 

It is popular destination for Athenians, who often visit this place during the weekends. Everyone can find there something for themselves. You can chose from more than 70 beaches, go to natural termal spa or go sightseeing whitewashed settlements, ruined castles and chapels.

It is perfect place for people looking for privacy. The beaches are very quiet and relaxing. Some of them are sandy, some are pebbly. The most impressive beach is Kolona. The sand there is gold and water is crystalline. You can try there also various meals in local taverns.

For people who want to go sightseeing is a must to see Panagia Kanala. The church is a basilica built in 1869 on the site of other church. It is the largest piligrimage site on Kythnos and one of the most important in the Cyclades. Interesting is the fact that on island which is 19 km long, there are 359 churches!
                                                                                

Katafiki Cave is the second place which every tourist should see at the Kythonos island. It is one of the largest caves in Greece with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. It is said that the cave was used as a refuge by pirates and that is the meaning of the name.
                                                                           


If you want to see something more than Kythnos Island you can visit Kea and Serifos Island by ferry.
